Minnesota based Northwest Airlines (NWA) has become the latest airline to expand into Heathrow once the Open Skies agreement takes place.  The Sky Team partner plans to offer daily non-stop service between Heathrow and three US cities.  Minneapolis will see service to Heathrow the first day that the open skies agreement goes into effect, on March 30, 2008. 

Detroit will get non-stop service to Heathrow starting May 2, 2008 after British Airways announced they would suspend service to that city.  And Seattle will see flights to Heathrow starting June 2, 2008. 

Doug Steenland, President and CEO Northwest, said, “The new Heathrow service is great news for customers, both business and leisure [travelers], who prefer the convenient location and accessibility of the Heathrow airport.”

Passengers flying NWA to Heathrow will get to experience NWA’s new A330’s. 

Northwest was able to use Sky Team’s partner KLM’s unused slots at Heathrow.  Continental, Delta, United and US Airways all announced they would expand service into Heathrow when the open skies agreement takes effect.
