Another 247 former TWA flight attendants that were laid off will be receiving recall notices in the mail to return to work for American Airlines. Still some 1,200 former TWA flight attendants are still on furlough and the time for American to recall them is running short.
Those that do accept the recall positions will begin working in March to fill projected vacancies.
Some 2,500 flight attendants were laid off following the downturn in the industry in 2001. This marks the third time that American, the largest airline still with furloughed employees, has recalled employees. In July, the remaining 1,200 on the list will no longer be able to be recalled for American Airlines.
Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., brokered a deal between the Association of Professional Flight Attendants and American, to allow for a recall deadline to be extended until December 31st. A McCaskill spokesperson is confident that another deal will be reached to extend the final list's deadline.
Though an American Airlines spokesperson was less confident that a deal would be reached.
