Add AirFrance to the list of airlines testing in-flight SMS and email services. AirFrance launched a commercial trial of an onboard cell phone service, which will still include restrictions on in-flight calls.
Passengers on certain European flights will be able to send and receive short messages send and receive e-mails, if their service and phones allow it.
However, in 3 months, passengers will be able to send and receive cell phone calls. But AirFrance contests that they will limit the use of cell phones to limit disruption to their other passengers.
I'd like to see how that goes.
AirFrance will ask passengers to fill out surveys and then decide after 6 months on whether or not to roll the service out to the rest of their fleet.
