On Monday (11/26) JetBlue Airways (JBLU) began selling tickets with online travel sites, Travelocity, Orbitz and Priceline.com.
JetBlue had previously relied on selling most of its tickets through its own website, but last year listed fares on so-called global distribution systems, which serve travel agents.
JetBlue is hoping despite having a "middleman" now that they will continue to see strong demand in ticket sales at their own site. Having that middleman such as travel sites can cut down on their sales at their own site.
JetBlue has seen more passengers flying with them but their planes are flying less full this year. This is mostly because the carrier has added quite a few new routes in 2006. So this is one reason the carrier is using travel sites to distribute their tickets to a wider audience.
Southwest Airlines is one of the last major airlines to sell their tickets only at their website.
