The second time in two weeks the United Auto Workers have gone on strike, this time against Chrysler. Is there any growing unrest in the airline industry that could possibly lead to a strike?
There might be hints of a strike brewing over at AMR Corps' (AMR) American Airlines as unrest over executive pay and sick leave policies escalate. Their pilot’s union has sent American Airline’s top executives a scathing letter blasting them for not sharing in the airline’s improving fortunes.
The letter sent to CEO Gerard Arpey suggests that pilot suicides are up because of airline policies and calls a joint employee-management program "a cruel hoax.”
The letter signed by Allied Pilots Association President Lloyd Hill, vice president Tom Westbrook and secretary-treasurer Bill Haug read: "Enjoy your blood money and your union-busting meetings. We'll see you in court, in the newspapers and on the picket line."
So maybe strikes could be seen at American Airlines as the new union management team that was brought in battle the airline gets tough. It looks like there will be a lot of fighting between American Airline's executives and the pilot's union. I have to say though, APA President Hill has got some very strong and vivid words for American Airlines.
