It has been a roller coaster of a week for The Boeing Company (BA). The announcement of their newest plane the 787, will be late by nearly 6 months, an important order from Emirates is hanging in the balance because of engine issues, and now the head of the 787 program has been ousted.
Emirates is interested in ordering 100 of the 787-10’s, a larger Dreamliner that Boeing hasn’t offered officially to customers, but has insisted that the engines need more thrust, something that Boeing does not agree on.
“It needs more thrust,” said Tim Clark, Emirates president.
In more Boeing news, the company has decided to replace 787 program head Mike Bair after the company announced a six month delay on the delivery of the airplane.
Some employees found the news unexpected and felt as it was more of supply chain issue, others saw the news coming given the delays.
Maria Diaz a manufacturing engineer on the 787 program, said, "I think they had very unrealistic expectations" for delivery.
If the delays mount more than 6 months some airlines might seek compensation. Qantas Airways is looking at seeking compensation from the Boeing Company.
