Twelve years after Boeing delivered their first 777 aircraft to United Airlines, the world has waited patiently for their newest aircraft. That day has finally come for Boeing, their customers, and their fans.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner will be officially unveiled tomorrow (7/8/07) to the world live.
The first version, the 787-8, will be fitted to carry between 210 - 250 passengers on routes of 7,650 to 8,200 nautical miles.
Models to follow will fit other niche markets with varying passenger capacities and distances.
The Dreamliner is advanced in many ways to bring together the needs of airlines, passengers, airports and the environment.
With fuel burn reduced by 20 percent the Dreamliner is more fuel efficient than any comparable plane today. Passenger comfort looks to be a top priority with mood lighting, larger windows with tinting, and higher humidity.
To date the Boeing 787-8 has purchase orders from 45 airlines and aviation companies totaling 544 orders for the aircraft. The most coming from ANA (All Nippon Airways) at 50 of the aircraft. Notable U.S. domestic 787-8 orders are coming from Northwest Airlines (18) and Continental Airlines (25). The list for international carriers is extensive. Top orders include ANA, Qantas, JAL, Air India, Singapore Airlines and Air Canada.
