The Silver Bullet is going Green. Well at least the airline that operates the world’s largest fleet of MD-80’s is going green. American Airlines will unveil marketing plans towards a more environmentally friendly airline in August.
American Airlines currently has a green policy that involves saving fuel. The ‘Fuel Smart’ program at the airline saves millions of dollars for them by taxing on one engine, closing window shades to keep cooling costs down, and reducing cabin weight by ridding heavy items. Also the airline recycles their cans, but this is mostly done by flight attendants onboard the aircraft.
American Airlines says that the government can do so much more to help cut emissions from our skies by approving the massive modernization plan that includes revamping the air traffic control system.
