AMR Corp. (AMR) the parent company of American Airlines will scale back some operations out of Love Field but expand others. American will end their service from St. Louis and San Antonio to Dallas Love Field after a year and a half battle against Southwest Airlines.
American, however, will increase their services from Love Field to both Kansas City and Austin.
American's managing director of its St. Louis hub, Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge said, "That market just doesn't produce for us. We were there for competitive reasons only."
Instead American will expand their operations out of St. Louis by adding seven additional cities. Cedar Rapids, Charlotte, Dayton, New Orleans, Newark, Springfield, Mo.; and Tulsa, will all get one daily flight on top of the current schedules. All of these cities have strong business demand and only Charlotte and Newark have competing non-stop carriers.
After these flight additions, American will operate 180 daily depatures out of St. Louis. Still well below pre-2001 levels, however, daily flights have been increasing since then.
