After posting a huge first quarter increase in profits, WestJet continues to expand. The airline recently received permission from Ottawa to begin Mexico service.
Canadian Federal Transport Minister Lawrence Canon said that WestJet is now designated to operate scheduled international air services between Canada and Mexico. "I am pleased with these new services, which will provide more options for Canadians [traveling] to Mexico on scheduled air services," said Canon.
This is WestJet’s second location outside Canada and the US. They currently operate services from Canada to the Bahamas.
Effective immediately, WestJet will offer services from San Jose del Cabo, Mazatlan, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and Manzanillo from Edmonton and Calgary, and to San Jose del Cabo and Manzanillo from Vancouver.
And more destinations were announced this morning from WestJet. Montego Bay (Jamaica), Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) will have winter seasonal services starting later this year.
It looks like WestJet is holding true to their promise of being a major international player.
