It is going to be one long summer for airline passengers.  With airlines running near record capacity and airlines understaffed it could mean long delays and cancellations. 

The week before the July 4^th holiday, Northwest Airlines is expected to cancel 240 flights because of a shortage in pilots.  The same might happen at United Airlines this summer.  Both United and Northwest continue to hire back furloughed pilots but the recent re-hiring of pilots might be too late for the summer. 

So what can passengers expect?  Well most should not be inconvenienced by short staffing issues.  If you do have a flight cancelled by this, rebooking might be an issue because of the near record load factors.  Each carrier's policy is different, so check with your carrier on what they owe each passenger, if anything.
