The move into the all business class model for Virgin Atlantic and British Airways was evitable.  With the open skies agreement recently signed, both airlines are planning some major operations to the United States.  The new service is a result of European competition, Lufthansa, KLM-Air France and others.  Not only is BA looking to fight off continental European carriers but Eos, Maxjet, Silverjet, and L'Avion.

The operation of such premium class services, possibly all-business class or two-class services including some premium economy seating, could link the US and Europe by next year.   Cities under consideration include New York connecting to Paris, Zurich, Frankfurt, Milan or Madrid.  BA plans to use smaller international aircraft (B 757’s or B767’s) instead of their normal B 747’s or B 777’s.  

Virgin Atlantic is planning similar services but would not comment on concrete plans or/and which London Airport they would be flying into.
