The parent company of AirTran Airways, AirTran Holdings Inc., (AAI) is not backing off their hostile bid for Midwest Air. AirTran is pushing forward with their offer after extending the deadline for the airline another few months. The new offer deadline is now August 10th.
AirTran continues to move forward with nearly 60% of all outstanding shares tendered. The next step includes nominating new board members to the Midwest Air board that favor a merger.
"Based on the support we have heard from Midwest shareholders and other observers, they want a new set of eyes and a fresh, independent voice inside the Midwest boardroom so that the AirTran offer can get a full and fair hearing," said Joe Leonard, AirTran Airways' chairman and chief executive officer.
This deal is only a matter of time. AirTran is not going to give up after 2 years of courting and work. They want this to go through.
