As Frontier cuts back, others are looking into expanding. With the return of Southwest Airlines to SFO, Delta looking into expanding their LAX presence, and Virgin America preparing to take off this summer, it may be time for JetBlue Airways (JBLU) to ramp up services in California too.
The Forest Hills, New York based airline is considering adding flights from L.A., San Diego, Burbank and Ontario. Former CEO David Neeleman said, the airline sees opportunities in California because fares are now higher on the West Coast than on the East Coast, a reversal of the previous situation.
JetBlue has not been able to take advantage of international routes. The airline only currently services domestic and Caribbean locations.
In Related News: David Neeleman stepped aside as CEO of JetBlue Airways and Dave Barger has been appointed CEO, effective immediately. Neeleman will become non-executive chairman of the board after being the top executive at JetBlue since 1998. JetBlue Airways has stumbled lately after recent troubles during a Valentine’s Day storm that left the airline with thousands of stranded passengers.
“This is part of a realigning of our leadership structure that began over the last year, part of our natural evolution as a growth company -- from a start-up to a $3 billion company," said JetBlue spokesman Bryan Baldwin.
Now that the honeymoon is over for the airline, it is starting to face some problems and issues. This airline has had a lasting effect on the industry; showing us that an airline can really care about their passengers.

"It's the revenge of the network carriers," said Edward H. Bastian, chief financial officer of Delta Air Lines Inc., in a recent interview. Low cost-carriers "can only grow so much before they begin facing the same cost issues as the rest of the industry."
These guys are getting a little cocky! After ducking into bankruptcy and screwing their employees and creditors DAL management think they walk on water??
The economy is slowing for everyone, smart management and a strong balance sheet will make the difference. Delta always talked about being the best, it is time to show the industry by example, not talk!
