The second time was not the charm for Denver based Frontier Airlines (FRNT) as they said they will halt their Los Angeles-San Francisco and San Francisco-Las Vegas services citing low demand this summer.   

Mike Boyd, an Evergreen-based aviation consultant said, "They saw a market where there were very high fares, and they thought they could take advantage of it.  But it's hard for an airline to get into those markets" without having a larger presence.

Frontier Airlines tried this project on a grander scale a few years back.  In 2005, the carrier pulled out of a Los Angeles 'focus city’ with flights from Los Angeles to Minneapolis, St. Louis, Philadelphia and Kansas City. 

Frontier has found it difficult in the domestic market but has found success international market flying from US cities to Mexican resort destinations, including a secondary city in Cancun, Mexico.  Frontier is still continuing to experiment with destinations.  Later this month the carrier will launch non-stop services from Memphis to both Las Vegas and Orlando.
