Airline Customer Service Slumps Lower Than IRS in Recent Survey

A recent survey released by the University of Michigan’s Customer Satisfaction Index places US airlines right below that of the Internal Revenue Service.  Poor customer service, lost bags, delayed flights and angry employees have all lead the airline industry in the United States to rank a poor 63 out of 100 on the index.

Airlines fell two points from last year and shows the growing dissatisfaction with the industry.  These numbers are the lowest since 2001.

At the bottom of the list was UAL Corp's., (UAUA) United Airlines and Delta Air Lines (DAL).  United fell seven points to the very bottom at 56.  Delta was just slightly higher than United but not much better.  Both airlines recently emerged from bankruptcy have had to cut services and employees, probably indicative of their recent slump in numbers.

On the flip side Southwest Airlines (LUV), the nation’s largest low cost carrier, rose two points to 76, topping all other airlines.

This summer is probably not going to be any better either.  Many airlines are facing employees who are angry, short staffing, and a system that is ripe with delays.  It is not going to be a pretty summer.

UAL Denver. Our P&W trained PW4000 boroscopers have shot down two 777 engines in the last week, only to be overriden by SFO. The first they sent a picture, let it fly. The second an engineer flew out from SFO and let it go for 5 more cycles. Our boro guys are throwing up their hands, why even boro?

Evedently the LEAN team leased out our spare engines. This is getting out of hand to say the least. You never cut corners on maintenance.
