Some details are come out regarding the new tentative offer between Northwest Airlines and their flight attendants union. Under a new contract, if approved by the flight attendants, flight attendants would receive full pay when using sick leave instead of the current 75% of pay when using sick leave. Also the ground holding pay would be reinstated. This means that when flight attendants are on board an aircraft with passengers for long delays they would receive their pay. Currently they do not get paid for this.
The sick pay, the ground holding pay, and options to allow up to 600 flight attendants "early out" severance packages are some of the new terms in the tentative contract being offered to the 8,200 flight attendants that work for Northwest Airlines.
If approved by the flight attendants the contract would remain in place until at least Dec. 31, 2011.
The tentative contract results in the same $195 million dollar savings the airline wanted. The flight attendants rejected that measure twice.
