I agree that we should all take steps to protect our environment everyday.
I noticed you briefly mentioned the in-flight recycling and waste-management programs at American Airlines. I work with American Airlines and am familiar with their ongoing environmental efforts, so I thought I’d share some more information with you.
The flight attendants at AA voluntarily collect aluminum cans from customers during flight and drop them off for recycling at various stations, and last year they recycled 10 million aluminum cans.
AA’s waste-water treatment facility is located at the Alliance/Fort Worth Maintenance Base. Water is conserved at the base and reused instead of being thrown out. The treated, recycled water is used to wash aircraft, process rinse water tanks and irrigate the landscape.
American is also committed to its fuel conservation efforts. With its Fuel Smart program, in 2006, AA reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 1.9 billion pounds.
