The troubled European manufacture of commercial aircraft has had to cut their profit forecast by $6.6 billion dollars after continued problems with management and financial crises. Now workers across Spain, France, and Germany held a united front against Airbus as they plan to cut 10,000 jobs across Europe to stabilize the company.
Unions said members at the company's French and German plants stopped work Friday. In Spain 9,000 workers at Airbus' three factories walked off the job for an hour. In Toulouse in southern France, thousands of striking workers from various French Airbus sites protested in front of the company's headquarters.
"David vs. Goliath: We are ready to fight," and "We Stand Together" read placards carried by protesters.
Even as more orders for aircraft come in, the financial stability of the company could come in to question, if more orders are cancelled from the A380 program, which has run into difficulties. FedEx and UPS have cancelled their orders for the super jumbo jet cargo version.
There needs to be a major overhaul at Airbus in order to get the company back on track. Airbus’ competition, Boeing has been having a stellar year. Airbus needs to recapture their drive and competitiveness.
