Let the merger rumor mill with Northwest Airlines begin now. A federal bankruptcy trustee said Wednesday that merger possibilities for Northwest Airlines should get a closer look.
The trustee said bankruptcy law requires that an examiner be appointed if one is requested. In Northwest's case, a group of hedge fund shareholders has asked for an examiner to look into whether Northwest has "parked" a merger until after it gets out of bankruptcy.

DELTA AIR LINES
*COUGH*
Northwest Airlines CEO, Doug Steenland, has said that the carrier will emerge as a stand alone and has no intentions of merging this year.
This year... It is purely my opinion but I believe that Northwest and Delta are going to emerge seperate stand alone, but days, maybe months later the carriers will merge. They filled for bankruptcy within hours of each other... they are going to emerge within days of each other.... same alliance.... not too much overlap in routes....
