Even though Rugby is not as popular here as across the world, the sport is watched by hundreds of millions of people across the globe. Today Emirates Airline became a sponsor of one of the world's biggest sporting events after signing a deal with the Rugby World Cup 2007 being held in France.
"Emirates is delighted to sponsor and support Rugby World Cup 2007. Rugby is a game that we are passionate about and we are excited to carry on supporting the global development of the game," said Gary Chapman, Emirates' president Group Services and Dnata.
I'm seriously surprised that American airline companies have not invested in more sporting events, especially here at home. Other airlines around the world are major supporters of sporting events. Qantas has a major partnership with their home country sports. Air New Zealand is tied very closely with their Rugby teams. Many European airlines support their sports.
US Airways has begun painting special planes in honor of sport teams where they have hubs, but other airlines have not joined up as quickly.
