
It was little surprise that today United Airlines was cleared for flights between two national capitols as American had to amend their route. United Airlines was cleared to start non-stop services between Washington D.C. and Beijing, China on March 25, 2007.
American, Continental, Northwest and United all competed for the route but in the end United showed that the demand was there to link the two cities.
"The new route closes a critical service gap, connecting the capital of the United States, the largest economy in the world, with the capital of China, the fastest-growing economy in the world," CEO of United Airlines, Glenn Tilton said.
United already flies to many Asian cities along side Northwest Airlines. American has some of the fewest routes to the area.
