Is ExpressJet going to become the new Independence Air?  It does not look to be likely but after Continental dumped some of their jets, they had to look elsewhere to find some income.  ExpressJet hopes to fly to cities in the west, south, and middle west. 

Some cities are already being leaked out.  Raleigh-Durham to Kansas City is a route being leaked out.  Though ExpressJet has not confirmed these two cities, the route would make sense.  These two medium sized cities that do not have much competition or direct services on that particular route.  Look for ExpressJet to invest in a route network that ties medium sized cities to others with little competition and no direct services. 

Kansas City was the No. 30 ranked market among the top cities served by RDU in 2005, the latest year for which figures are available. Almost 97,000 people traveled back and forth between the two markets that year.

"That's definitely one (market) that's been on our radar screen," says Hamlin, the spokesperson for ExpressJet. 

ExpressJet plans to provide service to a total of 24 cities.
