The route networks don't overlap too much between US Airways and Delta Air Lines but in cities in the southern United States where they do overlap, prices could be a worry for those passengers. With just one carrier now, prices might have a tendency to creep up in those markets. As I have said before if there was enough demand to support two airlines before, watch out for new airlines to come into those cities.
Another concern revolves around hub placement. So many of the hubs for both US Airways and Delta are so close to each other. Salt Lake is close to Phoenix. Cincinnati is so close to both Atlanta, Charlotte and Pittsburgh. It is a big mess along the eastern part of the US. Some have said that SLC and CVG would be the first to go. I have to say that SLC and CVG would be my first to go. The close proximity of ATL and CLT to CVG make it something that could be cut in order to save money.
So passengers should keep an eye on those situations.
