Northwest Ends Mechanic Strike
Northwest Airlines and their striking mechanics ratified a new contract this past week, but the odd thing, the mechanics will not report back to work.  The striking mechanics, who have been on strike for well over a year, were replaced by other mechanics after they went on strike last year.

The employees have two options with the new contract:

1.  Workers can choose to accept layoff status, making them eligible for recall and up to five weeks of severance pay

2.  Union members can choose to resign. Workers who resign may receive up to 10 weeks of severance pay.

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), which represents Northwest's mechanics, ratified a new contract with the Eagan-based carrier in a vote of 1,511 to 583.
