FedEx Corp. Scraps Airbus A380 Amid Delays, Orders Boeing 777's
Yet another blow to the struggling Airbus Company as FedEx Corp. (FDX) canceled their 10 orders for the super jumbo A380 jet amid concerns over delays.  FedEx becomes the first customer to cancel their orders.  Many other companies are requesting compensation from Airbus over the delays.  Singapore and Emirates are two notables that were scheduled to receive the A380 but had to push back the date over delays.  Qantas seems to be the only airline ordering more of the A380 even before they receive their first; though they have received hefty compensation for the delays.

fedex.gifSo what does this mean?  This is excellent news for Boeing, Airbus' main competitor.  FedEx Express unit has ordered 15 Boeing 777 freighters with a list price of $3.5 billion and taken options on an additional 15.

“The availability and delivery timing of this aircraft, coupled with its attractive payload range and economics, make this choice the best decision for FedEx,” said FedEx Chairman and CEO Frederick W. Smith.

Airbus regrets the decision by FedEx, company spokeswoman Barbara Kracht said, “but we understand their need to urgently address their capacity growth.”

Boeing does it correctly. Their marketing people make sure they talk to industry people to find out what theri needs are before they an aitcraft rather than build an aircraft and try to shove down an airlines throat like Airbus does.
