Continental Airlines Rewards Employees for On-Time Performance & Airline's Profits
When people book a flight on an airline, they are looking for some key things.  The safety of the airline.  Since all the air carriers in the US follow the same rules, everyone is pretty much on the same playing field.  Next is price.  People look for price.  The next is probably on time performance.  Getting to your destination on time is key.  Continental Airlines recognizes this as a huge factor.  So when they were reorganizing themselves under Gordon Bethune in the 1990's, they focused on getting the planes to their destinations on time.  They even started a program.  If all the employees worked hard together and had the highest on-time rating they would get a bonus.

Continental Airlines Inc. (CAL) workers were told [last week] they're getting a $100 bonus for coming in first in on-time performance in September.  The employees several weeks ago received $65 bonuses for the airline's third-place finish in August. That was their first on-time payout since the bonus program was expanded in June. Previously, the carrier was giving the $100 bonus only if the airline was in first place.

Continental has labor relations "that distinguish the company from other carriers," Calyon Securities airline analyst Ray Neidl said in a report issued several days ago.

"Management is focused on preserving this culture," Neidl wrote. "Accordingly, the carrier stated that it will preserve its pension plans."

Continue the excellent work Continental.  One of the best underrated airlines in the United States.  The airline has better than average relationships between management and the unions.  They treat their employees well.  And they have one of the best business and first class services.
