This is a pretty standard cut back in services. Most of the major carriers have long since eliminated coach food service. The only remaining airline, Continental Airlines, continues to serve passengers free food. Most of the other carriers have gone to a fee based food service.
Just the other day Alaska Airlines said they would be replacing their beverage carts with those that are much lighter to reduce the weight on their airplanes. A process that could save them nearly half a million in fuel each year.
