NWA and Flight Attendants Called to D.C. for Update
Federal Mediators are looking to see where both sides are at right now.  They called both Northwest Airlines and the flight attendants union to Washington late Wednesday to gage where both sides are at.

The airline says they are willing to negotiate, seeing how both attempts by the union to strike were blocked gives them the upper hand, but the flight attendants union says it will not talk unless they get back their chance to strike.

0869537.jpgIt looks as if both sides are not moving very quickly towards an accord.  Why would the airline anyways?  They have beaten off both attempts for the flight attendants to strike.  They have agreements with their other labor groups right now.  There is no need for them to move forward quickly.  The airline still has some time before it looks at emerging from bankruptcy, so there is not a need to move forward.  Plus at this point the contract for the flight attendants is already in place.

The flight attendants really have very few options at this point.  All they can hope for is for their appeal to go through.  Which in all honesty looks to be fairly unlikely.  Even if it would go through more appeals would be launched by the carrier and it would be a nightmare of appeals.

Stick a fork in the flight attendants chances.  They are done.
