Continental Airlines Moves Inline with Partners Abroad
Continental Airlines is telling passengers with bags that weigh over 70 pounds (31.7kilos) to repack their bags.  The airline is moving inline with their foreign partnered carriers with the new weight restrictions.  However, this new weight restriction will not affect most passengers.  The airline will still allow passengers to check two bags up to 50 lbs each and will allow some higher frequent fliers with the airline to check bags up to 70 lbs each.

One industry consultant who works for the Boyd Group puts it simply:  "Continental is an airline, not Allied Moving Vans.  They are supposed to take people from A to B, not move their household goods. If you need more than 70 pounds of stuff with you, you should probably drive."

It probably is a good move on Continentals part.  This ensures that no additional fees were pop up when traveling abroad, since most passengers that have bags near the limit are internationally traveling passengers.

Mee-ow. That's some good p.r.-speak.
