Continental Airlines Adding International Destination Out of Cleveland in '08

Cleveland's Hopkins International Airport will be growing internationally due in large part to Continental Airlines. Beginning in 2008 Continental Airlines will begin non-stop service from Cleveland to Paris. They believe that their operations at the airport is underrated and they want to grow their operations. In addition to adding international routes Continental will be replacing some of their smaller aircrafts with larger ones.

“We think our hub here in Cleveland is simply too small and we intend to grow it,” said Continental president Jeff Smisek during a press conference this afternoon. “We intend to help Cleveland participate in the global economy.”

Beginning in February 2007, Continental will be replacing 19-seat Beechcraft 1900 aircraft with 16 larger, 37-passenger Bombardier Q-200 aircraft for flights operated by Continental’s affiliate, CommutAir, at its Cleveland hub.

With nearly 250 flights out of the city each day, Cleveland is Continental Airline's third largest hub city behind Houston and Newark. This move by Continental will be good for the company. It will help strengthen their presence in Cleveland by offering more nonstop destinations and by upgrading their fleet will also help solidify their position in the city as the dominate carrier.
