Fueled by rising passenger levels, Dallas-based Southwest Airlines Co. confirmed Tuesday that it raised one-way fares by up to $10 last weekend.
The airfare bump, the carrier's fourth this year, was matched by several competitors.
Fares rose $3 on some medium-length segments and up to $10 on its longest routes.
The latest increase brings Southwest's highest refundable one-way fare to $319, up from $299 just a few months ago.
The $10 price hike rivals a similar move in March, which, at the time, marked the carrier's largest increase.
The price increases apply to about 73 percent of Southwest's markets, Southwest spokeswoman Paula Berg said.
Some analysts expect more increases.
Unless fuel prices experience a dramatic decline, "Southwest's full-court press for higher fares is a phenomenon we expect to continue for many years," J.P. Morgan analyst Jamie Baker said in a note to investors.
