As airlines shifted a majority of their regional operations to the smaller carriers, they gave rise to airlines that could actually make money and continue to expand their operations. Republic Airways which owns Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America, reported a 52% increase in traffic for the month of May. These numbers continue to show that the airline industry is recovering but some carriers continue to lag behind.

Republic Airways today reported preliminary passenger traffic results for May 2006. The company generated 570 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs), a 51.8% increase over the same month last year, while available seat miles (ASMs) increased to 758 million, a 41.7% increase. Load factor was 75.2% versus 70.2% in May 2005. A total of 1,105,148 passengers were carried during the month, a 39.4% increase over the same month last year.
Republic Airways Holdings, based in Indianapolis, Indiana is an airline holding company that owns Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America. The airlines offer scheduled passenger service on approximately 930 flights daily to 84 cities in 35 states, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas through airline services agreements with four major U.S. airlines.
All of the airlines' flights are operated under their major airline partner brand, such as AmericanConnection, Delta Connection, United Express and US Airways Express. The airlines currently employ over 3,200 aviation professionals and operate 163 regional jet aircraft including 68 E170 aircraft.
