Air China, China's flag carrier, is poised to become the newest member of the Star Alliance grouping of international airlines, diplomats and industry officials said on Friday.They said the airline, the sixth largest in the Asia-Pacific region, would sign an agreement to join Star Alliance in Beijing on Monday in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Adding Air China as a member of the Star Alliance only reinforces the issue that the Star Alliance is growing their presence in Asia and specially China. This market is growing so rapidly that the airlines must enter into the market in order to keep business ties strong.
