
The magazine has given the award annually since 1974 to recognize excellence in the airline industry.
The 60-year-old carrier is respected and admired among peers for its unwavering commitment to safety, technical excellence and customer service, ATW editors said.
``To receive the award, an airline needs to satisfy all conditions including safe operation records, innovation in developing new markets and services, adoption of new aviation technology, profits, and excellent service,’’ J.A. Donoghue, the magazine’s editorial director said.
``Cathay Pacific has been among the elite of the world’s airlines for several decades. Its dedication to airline business fundamentals helped it survive potentially devastating events such as the SARS crisis, with its employee group intact and happy, and its string of profitable years undisturbed,’’ Donoghue added.
Philip Chen, CEO of the Hong Kong-based carrier, said receiving the award is especially meaningful because the year 2006 is Cathay Pacific’s 60th anniversary.
The award ceremony will be in Singapore on Feb. 20.Korea Times
Cathay Pacific owns 95 aircraft servicing over 90 destinations in Asia, Australia, Europe and the US. Cathay Pacific (CX) is a member of the oneWorld Alliance which members include American Airlines and British Airways. CX has also won best overall airline by Skytrax this year.
