All About the Author
I have the hardest time introducing myself to people.  So welcome to my new blog.  I'm Rob.  Just a few things about myself.

  • I am officially the youngest contributor here at KMM, but don't let that put you off, I know my field.
  • I am currently working on my Bachelor of Science degree in Air Traffic Control and a second Bachelor of Business Science degree in Airport Management.
  • I was born in the western suburbs of St. Louis but I currently attend the University of North Dakota, in Grand Forks, ND.
  • My favorite plane is the Boeing 757-200.  Sometimes I get lucky and I am able to catch a shuttle flight to Chicago with United or American on this aircraft.
  • I also love to travel.  I have been to Europe and Australia, and I plan on going back later this year, if not sooner.
  • I'm one of those nerds that likes to hang out at the airport 7 hours before his flight taking pictures of the aircraft.  I take weekend trips to different cities just so I can fly.  I listen to tower and approach radio frequencies.  I'm the kind of guy if given the tail number of the aircraft can tell you the kind of aircraft, the series and even the departure airport and in some cases the departure times.
So that is a little about me.  So never hesitate to call me on something.  Never hesitate to leave a comment.  Never hesitate to drop me a line.  This is not a newspaper, it is a blog, it is meant to be interactive.

Cheers
Rob

Hey Rob! You go!! Let me know if you do or don't want me to point out any editorial corrections you might want to make. Cuz, you know, that's just how I am.

Rob, welcome to Know More Media! I'm excited to serve you as assistant editor of this growing outfit. I just don't think I'll ever be able to correct you on anything involving air travel, though. I look forward to reading and learning from your posts. Enjoy it!

Rob,

I have a personal interest in following your posts. My dad was a pilot in the Air Force in WWII. You would think that I would know a lot about planes, but I was young when he ended his military career, so I must confess, I know very little about airplanes and I have wanted to "know more".

I am also interested in your review of the industry, with relevant news and information. I really hope we can get some contributions from those within the industry!

Welcome to the team. We are glad you are on board! Get the pun? ;)

Rob, It is great to have you on board. I came across airblue when I was writing a post on JetBlue. It was clear you know your stuff and could not be cooler that you are young but already an expert. Welcome.

Rob,
Welcome aboard and get ready for the flight of your life! The exits are fore and aft but you won't want to use those silly things!

Rob,

I stumbled across this website by accident and ended up reading it for a couple of hours. It's got great info and you've done a great job with the content. I'm in the army now serving in Iraq, but I am seriously thinking of going to UND to major in commercial aviation to hopefully someday become a pilot. What do you think of the school? Take care and great site!

Chris

I think this site is a travesty. I have been browsing over it, and the author passes himself off as an aviation expert. He is not even a pilot yet people are on here asking him for advice on good schools to go to for flight training.
Most of the articles on here are just cut and paste from other newspapers, and aviation writers.

You are not an expert in this field, and you should be ashamed of yourself for pretending to be one.

How do I know, I am an airline pilot and have been for years. I am tired of all the nonsense posted in the media by people like you.

Hey Anonymous,

Thanks for the feedback. When was the last time you were able to give feedback to a newspaper or magazine?

I disagree with you. Rob has clearly stated that he is in school working on his Bachelor of Science degree in Air Traffic Control and a second Bachelor of Business Science degree in Airport Management. He has been open and clear about who he is.

If people are asking him advice, it is because he has gained their trust. For my part, I have really enjoyed Rob's posts.

Let's consider you. You post here under the name anonymous. You claim you are a pilot, but how do we really know? I am sure there are people that would be interested in asking you for your advice, but as long as you hide behind anonymity, your comments don't have much weight and are easily dismissed. We are glad that you have joined the conversation. But come out from behind the curtain and really participate.

We would love to have a pilot writing for us. Interested? Let us know. We are interested in having a broad range of voices and opinions. If you think what you are reading is nonsense, then set it straight - here is your chance. Are you brave enough?

As to the fact that some of Rob's posts are from other sources, we think that is a good thing. Rob always provides the link to the original source. Instead of scouring the web to find airline industry news, you only have to stop by here to get a good overview.

We want to encourage conversation, not drive by attacks. Come join us and help us get to the truth.

While I'd fly a plane into the nearest barrier, I've been very interested in the comments on this site and the tone Rob uses. Thanks Tim for bringing the conversation back into flight for a better journey. What an honor to read so many deep and at times opposing views, without fear of getting attacked for adding one's own thoughts! That tone alone is rare today -- Bravo! Thanks Rob for reaching into the deeper stuff, showing us the facts, and taking the risks that come with showing your own views as well as you do. Keeps many coming back!

Great blog topic!

Hey Rob How are you??, I like your post about Aeromexico 777, I work everyday with 757s and Im with you they are incredible, I have a question in your Aeromexico post you finished with a message about the aircraft comming in to JFK. I would love to see a Latin Airline with that equipment, do you know when the aircraft is going to come..
Thank You so much

So is this guy another armchair airline CEO or what? Funny to me how everyone knows whats good for the airlines, and most of them don't even work for airlines. How about fix the greater problem. And, it's with Corporate America, not just the Airlines. Put back honesty and integrity. Put back the rewards for jobs well done. This Country is run by mostly liars and cheats, and now it's trickled down into our Corporate Sector. Let's just clean house once and for all.......

Rob, A customer who received one of my business cards thanking him for his business told me about your site. I appreciate your positive approach with the pilots engaging their customers. Send me your company address and I will send you a souvenir I give to my customers.

When ATC will be IN CHARGE of the direction and speed or any decision I take in an aircraft... I will quit! If I'm not happy with what ATC gives me because I feel it isn't safe, the answer is NEGATIVE! Safety is MY prerogative and if I think security is at stake I WILL DO WHATEVER I THINK IS NECESSARY TO ENSURE FLIGHT SAFETY no mater what ATC thinks... When I declare an emergency, you move the other traffics to clear the way, you don't clear me for nothing!
Oh and does TCAS say anything to you? When I get an RA you (at ATC) just lay back and watch the show... you control me, how dare you! You certainly improve flight safety, but will never control my airplane!
Instead, you should say that ATC controls TRAFFIC because they have the big picture. There are too many aircraft for pilots alone to assure separation themselves and they definitely NEED ATC for that reason. But I am not lost without you and I don't need you to tell me where to go! That is the message you give to people and it is WRONG! And unless being vectored where we BOTH share the responsibility, terrain clearance is MY responsibility.
What ever...

I can't find an email link for Rob on the site, and would like to talk to him about being a guest on The Bryant Park Project on NPR, for a segment on the Boeing 787. Please contact me at the address above ASAP. Many thanks!
